Northern Exposure--Day 2

We were originally scheduled to arrive at the Amana Colonies RV Park in Amana, Iowa, tomorrow, June 4. After we made suck good progress yesterday we only had a little over 300 miles to go. We got up early this morning and headed out. Getting up early was easy considering we went to bed by 9:00 pm last night. Anyway, we headed north on U.S. 63 and just kept going. We arrived at the park about 3:30 this afternoon.

There are several coach's already here getting ready for the rally. The rally does not actually start until next Sunday but most of the Club officer's and key volunteers come in early to get everything ready. I usually help on the parking committee so we'll be getting all the sites ready and site assignments made. This makes it much easier when the main body of coaches start arriving on Friday and Saturday.

They have had a great deal of rain in this area. Driving up through northern Missouri and southern Iowa we were amazed at how many of the creeks and rivers were out of their banks and the fields that were covered with water. The RV park here received another inch or so of rain this morning. Everything is pretty wet and muddy. One coach has already gotten stuck and had to be pulled out by a tractor. They got off the edge of the gravel road when turning into their assigned site and buried their rear axle. The only way to pull these big coaches out of the mud is to pull them from behind with a VERY large tractor.

By the time we got parked, got the car unhooked and all the utilities set up it was time to relax and visit with some of our old friends. Tomorrow it will be time to get the bug and grim off the front of the coach so I can put the sun screen over the windshield. Of course, if the weather does not get better we may not see the sun while we are here.
