I've been meaning to post a blog entry about my parents for the past two weeks but just have not been able to get it done. On Monday, August 16, my parents were involved in a very serious auto accident. They had left the Assisted Living Center, where they live in Purcell, Oklahoma, to go 20 miles north to Norman on an errand. On the way back, just four miles from home, they collided with another vehicle that had slowed to a stop due to road construction. It turned into a four vehicle collision with the folks in the rear car. Dad is still in the hospital in Purcell but, hopefully, will go home tomorrow or Tuesday. Mom was flown by helicopter to the main trauma center in Oklahoma City. She has multiple breaks in her femur and hip. Due to her age (91) and advanced dementia it was decided to not do reconstructive surgery. She has now been moved to a nursing home a couple of miles from our house. She most likely will need full time nursing care for the rest of her life. The below photo was taken by the local Purcell newspaper.
Fortunately, Dad was driving his Lincoln Towncar. We feel this is what saved their lives. Had Mom not gone with him he would have been driving his Ford Ranger Pickup and it is very doubtful that he would have survived the accident.
